PROJECT

Overview

Hexapod Industries was a 12-week alternate reality game released in spring 2023. I created its story, visual identities, three connected websites, puzzles, interactive Holofacts, phone challenge, and Ethereum contracts. The project archive documents the release sequence, systems, and planned continuation.

Field notes

The first release hid a five-minute mint challenge inside a faux desktop. Players searched inboxes, notes, and terminal help to find the command before their wallet access expired.
Another release used a safe-mode desktop and a Twilio phone tree. Players found a number, followed voice prompts, and recovered a code to unlock access.
Puzzle completion produced a signed authorization checked by the Solidity contract. The contract also enforced release limits and one mint per address within each group.
React and Next.js ran the faction sites; React Three Fiber rendered the Holofacts. Next.js API routes and Supabase handled off-chain challenge state and REFAB choices, while Hardhat supported contract testing and deployment.
The 12-week release created about 400 Holofacts and ended after a shared community event. Research cards and levelling shipped; the component factory and reconstruction systems remained unfinished.
The archive also shows Season 2 as a continuation in development, with a fictional recovery catalogue and a planned edition of 64 physical floppy disks.
